Meet the Artist
Hi friends,
I’m Sierra Truong, the artist and meditation teacher behind Inner Beauty By Sierra and The Grounded Circle. Art has always been a part of my life from a very young age, but it took nearly 30 years for me to gather the courage to pursue my true dream—creating art full-time (and that was 2019).
If life is a train where we can choose our destination, I got off at a very strange station in my early twenties, when I tried to become an architect. Though I don’t usually see past experiences as “wrong decisions,” I can say that deep down, I always knew being an architect wasn’t something I was passionate about. Despite that, I went on to complete my master's in architecture, then worked as both an architectural graduate and an interior designer for nearly a decade. The truth, simply was, all I ever really wanted was to create art.
Accepting I had stepped off the wrong station, I hopped back on the train, but this time, I chose a different route. I discovered a spiritual guru, Sri Chinmoy, and joined his Bhakti yoga path. I’ve always resonated with the saying, “When the student is ready, the master will appear,” and this perfectly describes how I found my spiritual journey. One day, while walking around campus, I saw a meditation class poster that read, “Whenever you go, carry happiness with you.” Intrigued, I decided to attend that very class, and it became the start of almost four years of devotion on a spiritual path.
During this time, I believed that my career was secondary to my spiritual focus, so I kept my 9-5 job as an interior designer while dedicating myself to meditation and community service. Though I was part of a beautiful, spiritually dedicated community, three years later, I found myself in a deeply sad and resentful time from burnout. My days were filled with stress at work and an overwhelming amount of selfless service activities. My life had become unbalanced, and I had neglected self-care. My cup was empty, and it was one of the most confusing times of my life.
But through all this, the one thing that helped me reconnect with myself was drawing and art journaling. Art became my way of processing and releasing emotions, and I began sharing my artwork on Instagram. At first, I posted simple line art, but I quickly realized that my art, combined with my meditation practice, allowed me to find inner peace and healing. Eventually, I was able to navigate back to a place of more stability, without the supportive community I once had. Everything started from within. When I was proactively connecting with myself better, I could connect to others also at a deeper lever. Life became a lot more joyful, vibrant, intimate and less lonely when I prioritizing deep connections. Both meditation & art were my most important tools for this.
I found my way back onto the train meant for me—the direct route aligned with my soul purpose. Once you experience the clarity of living in alignment with your purpose, you realize there’s no going back.
That’s when I took the leap and left my 9-to-5 job to focus on Inner Beauty By Sierra. For me, the word "beauty" goes beyond aesthetics; it is about the essence of our soul.
Soul's essence or Inner Beauty not a myth; it’s more real than any cosmetic advertisement. Inner beauty is about deeply facing yourself with more curiosity and compassion than judgment. It is a commitment to practice deep listening within and keep letting go of things that bind our spirit. Practices like meditation, mindfulness, yoga, and art making are all powerful tools for this, as they encourage us to be present and mindful. Art, in particular, is a form of self-expression that not only creates beauty but also shares the artist’s inner world with the world around them.
"If meditation brings awareness, art brings joy."
With Inner Beauty By Sierra, I aim to inspire others to tap into their inner beauty so they can live their most authentic and abundant lives. When you’re aligned with your purpose, living your dream becomes the most fulfilling way of being. And happiness and abundance follow naturally as byproducts of that alignment.
I’m so grateful to share this journey with you, and I look forward to continuing to inspire, create, and grow together.
With love,
Sierra Truong
